Steven Mark Shanes Jr

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Steven Mark Shanes Jr., who departed this world on December 25, 2025, at the age of 40. Steven was born on May 4, 1985, and was a beloved son, father, and friend to many. His warm spirit and kind heart touched everyone he met, and he will be deeply missed.

Known for his friendliness and outgoing nature, Steven was always a shoulder for someone to lean on. He had an incredible gift for making others feel valued and heard. His hobbies brought him joy and fulfillment; whether he was working diligently, casting a line while fishing, or creating cherished memories with his family, Steven approached life with a full heart. He was also a collector of knives and ball caps, and he showed unwavering loyalty to his favorite team, Alabama Football.

Steven is survived by his mother, Lucy Carter (Ricky), wife, Kayla Shanes, his sons, Darin Bass, Devon Bass, and Steven Shanes. He was preceded in death by his father, Steven Mark Shanes Sr.

Steven’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. He is survived by his loving family and close friends who will carry his memory forward.

Memorial Service for Steven will be at 6:00 PM Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Bills-McGaugh & Hamilton Funeral Home. Visitation will be prior to the service starting at 4:00 PM and continuing until time for the Memorial Service.
