Michael Floyd “Mike” Williams, 67, of Belfast, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2026, following a six month battle against cancer, surrounded by those who loved him.
Mike was born in Shelbyville, TN on August 31, 1959, to Dale and Ernestine Williams. Throughout his life, Mike experienced both great joy and deep hardship, yet those who knew him best will remember the depth of his heart, his fierce loyalty, and the love he had for his family.
Mike loved to create things with his hands. A skillful builder, his children can remember him creating a house plan in his mind and sitting at the kitchen table to draw it out on notebook paper. He was then able to construct a complete two-story house including every phase of the process: pouring the foundation, framing, roofing, brick laying, sheet rocking, insulating, trimming and painting, without ever having an official set of blueprints.
A talented musician, Mike could play any stringed instrument he picked up, by ear. He especially loved bluegrass music and playing the banjo, guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and dobro. Some of his greatest moments of peace were spent sitting in his living room or on the front porch “picking.” Sitting around outside and playing with friends and family were even better.
Mike loved to be outdoors when the weather was cool. He especially loved going fishing with friends and family and planting a garden every year. He grew everything from asparagus and corn to peppers, tomatoes and onions. He was determined to put out a garden even after his cancer diagnosis, and his brother helped him to accomplish this. He was happy to be able to put up several jars of sauerkraut this summer from the cabbage he had grown.
Mike had a sweet tooth and enjoyed cooking homemade desserts. Banana pudding, peach cobbler, and biscuits and gravy were some of his favorites.
You never had to wonder where you stood with Mike. He said what he meant and meant what he said. He was also a giver of nicknames. If you were in his inner circle, he always referred to you by your nickname.
He could be stubborn, funny, and sometimes difficult to understand—but beneath it all was a man who loved deeply and cared more than he often knew how to express. His life touched more people than he may ever have realized, and his memory will remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
Mike is survived by his children, Stacie (Daniel) Jackson and Emily (Grant) Whaley; six grandchildren: Jian and Faith Jackson, Abigail, Addison and Daniel Whaley, and Cameron Kimmons; two brothers: Joe (Betty) Williams and Ron (Shelly) Williams, one sister, several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, his beloved rescue dog “Little Girl,” and many friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved great aunt and uncle, Dixie and Bennie Curlee.
A funeral service will be held at 6:00 on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Bills-McGaugh & Hamilton Funeral Home in Lewisburg, TN. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 4:00-6:00 on October 11.
The family would like to thank every single person who sent cards during Mike’s illness, prayed, showed love and care, and those who were the hands and feet of Christ in taking care of him. Your good deeds did not go unnoticed.
