Melba Christine Blackburn passed away peacefully with a smile on her face. Per her wishes, she took her last breath in the comfort of her home. This took place in Lewisburg, TN, on May 26, 2025, just shy of her 105th birthday. Born on June 1, 1920, Melba lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unyielding dedication to the well-being of those around her.
Melba was a beacon of light in the lives of many, known for her wit, hard work, and infectious sense of humor. She dedicated a significant part of her life to nurturing young minds as a preschool teacher, after retiring from a successful career in factory work. Her passion for education and her love for children left a lasting impact on countless students who had the privilege to know her.
Melba was a woman of many talents and passions. Her beautiful yard, adorned with gorgeous flowers, was a testament to her green thumb and her love for nature. Known for her exceptional culinary skills, she created delicious meals from scratch, embodying the essence of country cooking. Her homemade canned preserves, shared with family and friends, brought warmth and comfort to all who tasted them.
A skilled poet and avid reader, Melba, had a gift for finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an active member of the Methodist Church, where her kindness and faith touched the hearts of her community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernie Lee and Lela Luna Twitty; husband, Hubert Blackburn; daughter, Suzanne Simmons; brother, Harold Twitty. She is survived by her granddaughter, Sherry Willhelm; and great grandchild, Dalaney Willhelm.
