Matthew ' 'Mac Scoggins, Sr

June 8, 1919 — May 11, 2003

Mr. Matthew M. Mac Scoggins, Sr., age 83, died Sunday afternoon at his Lynnville residence following a brief illness.

Services celebrating Macs life will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 AM from the chapel of Bills McGaugh Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Perry McCall and Bro. Ronnie Thomas. Burial will follow in Lone Oak Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years: Mrs. Brownie Hewitt Scoggins of Lynnville; two sons: Matthew M. Sonny Paulette Scoggins of Columbia and Leonard Hewitt Betty Lynn Scoggins of Lynnville; 5 grandchildren: Levi, Lacey, and Lindy Scoggins of Lynnville, Matthew Scoggins III of Atlanta, and Marion Scoggins of Johnson City; 2 sisters: Margaret Ragsdale and Bettye Bigger both of Lewisburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister: Edna Parker.

A native of Marshall County, Mac was the son of the late Matthew M. Scoggins and Ruth C. Ridner Scoggins Bailey. PFC Scoggins served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the South Pacific with Company K, 148th Infantry, 37th Division. He was a retired tool & die maker for 43 years with Heil-Quaker Corportation, formerly Marshall Stove. He was a member of the Pulaski Lodge #101 Free & Accepted Masons, and a charter and life member of the Lewisburg VFW Post 5109. Mr. Scoggins served his Lord in the Baptist church as a deacon for 42 years, currently as a member and deacon emeritus of the Cornersville First Baptist Church.

The family will visit with friends on Monday from 4:00 8:00 PM at Bills McGaugh Funeral Home, and again Tuesday morning until the funeral hour.
