Marie Jones

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marie M. Jones, a beloved member of our community, who left us on December 11, 2024, at the age of 98. Born on August 18, 1926, in Saint Louis, Missouri, Marie spent her later years in Cornersville, Tennessee, where she touched the lives of many through her kindness and generosity.


Marie had a strong work ethic that led her through various roles, culminating in her long-standing position as a manager at Dollar General, where she was known for her dedication to her job and her customers. Before this, she retired from Cosmolab, where she also made lasting memories and friendships. Throughout her life, Marie exemplified what it meant to be hardworking and caring. She devoted herself to guiding the children of her community, serving as a nurturing caregiver and a strong support for those around her.

Passionate about collecting, Marie took joy in acquiring beautiful salt and pepper shakers as well as little boots, which reflected her unique taste and personality. She had a wonderful love for flowers, and her home was often filled with their vibrant beauty.

Marie is survived by her son, Rod Landers, daughter, Dorothy Shelton, child by heart, James Graham, grandchildren, Norma Jean Shirley (Randall), Billy Wayne Edwards, Chandler Edwards, Wayne Shelton, and Tony Shelton, great grandchildren, Kimberly Shirley Cole, Jamie Shirley, and Amber Adcok, great great grandchildren, Alyssa Cole, Joseph Cole, Harley Cole, and Karley Cole, and numerous nephews and nieces who will cherish the memories of this remarkable woman. Her warmth and spirit will be missed by family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Wilfred and Marie Alice Ade Wenzel, husbands, James Blackwell, Wayne Middleton, and Lydle Jones and son, James Blackwell Jr., brothers, Wilfred Wentzel, Arthur Wentzel, and Kenneth Wentzel, and sisters, Mabel Banks, Evelyn Fuller, Grace Pinkerton, Margaret Henderson, and Vernell Marshall.


The funeral services will be held at Bills-McGaugh & Hamilton Funeral Home. There will be public viewings on December 13, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on December 14, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, leading into the funeral service at 10:00 AM. Following the service, Marie will be laid to rest in Lone Oak Cemetery.

In this time of sadness, we remember a special woman who contributed so much to our lives and the community around her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the beauty of flowers she loved so dearly.
