Looney, Quenten S, age 90 passed away on December 1, 2009.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Geneva Looney and a son, James Michael Looney.
He is survived by his wife Doris Looney of Lewisburg, TN and one daughter Patricia Mosko of Ardmore, PA. Also surviving are two brothers Morris Marjorie Looney of Lewisburg, Jack Looney of Cabool, MO and one sister Lorene Campbell of Tuscumbia, AL and two grandchildren Suzanne and Peter Mosko.
During his nine decades of life, Quenten S. Looney was a model citizen. He served as a defender of his country, a loyal friend to his associates, a successful farmer and contributor to his community.
At the age of eighteen, he enlisted in the US Army. As one of the early paratroopers, he served in the European Theater of Operations helping to defeat fascism in that part of the world. Later, he served in Korea to stop the expansion of communism in Asia. Distinguished military service gained Mr. Looney a commission as an officer and after combat, a series of assignments with increasing responsibilities. He retired with the rank of Major with twenty- six years of military service. Following his retirement from the Army he continued serving in a civilian capacity at the Army Military Personnel Administration Center in St. Louis, MO for ten years.
Quenten had a strong interest in community affairs and was instrumental in establishing one of the volunteer fire companies in Marshall County, TN.
Active citizenship was a high priority in the life of this extraordinary American. He was a long time member of the American Legion, a stalwart in the Republican Party in Marshall County serving two terms as its chairman and was a member of the Marshall County Election Commission for ten years. Additionally, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lewisburg.
As a husband, father, grandfather, soldier, civil servant, farmer, neighbor and citizen, Quenten S. Looney always placed service above personal gain and established an example for others to emulate.
Visitation will be on December 4, 2009 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM followed by a memorial service to be held at Bills McGaugh Funeral Home in Lewisburg, TN. Final interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
