John T Boyd Jr.

John T. Boyd Jr., of Lewisburg, Tennessee, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his children, on May 29, 2026, at the age of 72. He was born on August 19, 1953.

Graveside service will be held on Monday,, June 1, 2026, at 12:00 pm at Lone Oak Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Monday at Bills-McGaugh & Hamilton Funeral Home from 11:00 am until the time of the graveside service.

John T. was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend whose love for his family was evident in everything he did. He had a gift for making people feel loved, valued, and welcome, and he leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories for those who knew him.

A proud Tennessee Volunteers graduate and fan, John T. rarely missed an opportunity to watch the Vols compete, especially on the football field. He was known for his thoughtful and detailed Yelp and Amazon reviews, his passion for discovering hidden local restaurants, and his many colorful conspiracy theories, some of which proved surprisingly accurate. He took great pride in perfecting his gumbo, mixing exceptional Bloody Marys, and aging Tabasco sauce with the care of a collector.

John T.'s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He created countless memories with his children through shared adventures, late-night movies, and family vacations. Whether visiting New York City, exploring amusement parks such as Opryland and Carowinds, relaxing in Myrtle Beach, or white-water rafting in West Virginia, John T. embraced opportunities to make every experience memorable. He also enjoyed the experience of visiting many different countries throughout his career stretching from all parts of Europe to Asia; his favorite was Ireland.

John T. especially treasured his role as a grandfather. He delighted in early morning trips with his grandchildren to the local donut shop or Shoney’s and created a special gathering place for them by transforming an old shed into a hangout known as “The Spoon.” Even though he lived 2 hours away, he made it a priority to be at every birthday party. His grandchildren brought him immense pride and happiness.

John T. is survived by his son, Brandon Boyd (Danae); his daughter, Kathryn Brekle; and his beloved grandchildren, Emilia Boyd, James Boyd, Caroline Brekle, and Benjamin Brekle. He is also survived by many other family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas Boyd Sr. and Carolyn Clift Hawkins; his brother, Stephen Boyd; and his daughter, Stephanie Boyd.

John T. will be remembered for his unwavering love of family, his generosity, his humor, his adventurous spirit, and the many traditions and memories he leaves behind. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on through all those who loved him.
