James Jones

James M. Jones, Jr.," Buddy" age 90 of Lewisburg, TN passed away on Friday, October 7th, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Jones was a native of Marshall County and was the son of the late Dr. James M. Jones, Sr. and Estha McLain Jones.
He was a graduate of Marshall County High School, Vanderbilt University in 1943 with a AB Degree, and Duke University Law School in 1947 with a Jurist Doctorate. Mr. Jones attended First United Methodist Church of Lewisburg.

In 1947-48 Mr. Jones was employed by Manier & Crouch Attorneys in Nashville, TN; partner with Jones & Wallace Attorneys, Lewisburg from 1948-58, House Counsel and various Executive Positions-Venus Pen & Pencil Corporation Lewisburg, TN and New York City 1958-68; Business and private law practice, including Bigham, Binkley and Jones 1969-1975; Former President and Chairman of the Board, Peoples & Union Bank, Lewisburg, TN from 1975 until retirement in 1992.

Mr. Jones was a delegate to the 1953 Tennessee Constitutional Convention, replacing Governor Jim McCord and was a Tennessee State Senator in 1954-56.
He was a former member of the Lewisburg Rotary Club for 30 years and a past president and member of ATO Fraternity at Vanderbilt University and Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity at Duke University.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister Evelyn Jones Petrucelli. He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years Jeanne Coble Jones of Lewisburg, four daughters Jan (Bob) Taylor of Franklin, TN, Janie (Barry) Childers of Shelbyville, TN, Jennifer (Larry) Masters of Knoxville, TN and Jackie Jones (Dale Houtkooper) of Thompson's Station, TN. Also surviving are five grandchildren Stacie (Tony) Whaley of Murfreesboro, TN, Laura Beth (Brandon) Zollner of O'Fallon, IL, James Brian (Samantha) Childers of Shelbyville, TN, Andrew Cafferky, Pompano Beach, FL, Katie Cafferky, Knoxville, TN and one great grandchild Jackson Jones Whaley.

Visitation with the Jones family will be held at Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home on Sunday, October 9th, 2011 from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. A memorial service will take place on Monday, October 10th, 2011 at 2 P. M. at First United Methodist Church of Lewisburg with Rev. Mark Irvin officiating.
