Jackie Leon Sharp, 85, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, at NHC Lewisburg, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Born on February 17, 1940, in Lewisburg, Tennessee, Jackie spent his early years helping his family on the farm while attending Cornersville School. After graduating, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Upon returning home, he began a career with Heil Quaker/ICP, where he worked as a supervisor for more than 40 years. During that time, he made many lifelong friends. Too young at heart to fully retire, Jackie later worked at Oak Grove Elementary School for eight years. He loved being around the children and was known for sharing stories about the funny and memorable things they would say.
Jackie was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge, the Shriners, and the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 36 years, Patsy A. Sharp; his parents, George Clebert Sharp and Nannie Brady Sharp; brothers, George C. Sharp Jr., Wesley Calvin “Ootch” Sharp, Briley Phelan Sharp, Thomas Howard Sharp, Jimmy Lee Sharp, Robert Cleo Sharp; and sister, Margie Reydel Sharp Lewis.
He is survived by his daughter, Sheila Christopher (Drew) of Florence, AL; granddaughters, Anna McCrary and Elizabeth Taylor (Jeff); great-grandchildren, Emma, Austin, and Ann McCrary; bonus daughter, Rhonda Whitworth; his high school sweetheart and love, Vivian Boyd Sutton; brother, Ronnie Mace Sharp (Emelda); sisters, Becky Sharp Johnsey and Sally Sharp Libs (Wally); as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of NHC Lewisburg and Compassus for their compassionate care and kindness.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Bills-McGaugh & Hamilton Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Short Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Navy. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or to the Elks Lodge Scholarship Fund.
