Jack Layne Freeland

Jack Layne Freeland Sr., passed away on January 9, 2025, at the age of 70. Layne was born on March 10, 1954, in Lewisburg, TN, where he lived his entire life. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, where he was assigned to the USS John F Kennedy (CV-67) as an electrical/mechanical equipment repairman from 1975 to 1976. He achieved Airman E3 rank which helped carry his values of hard work and dedication throughout his life.


Layne had a fulfilling career for over 40 years in the manufacturing industry at Walker Die Casting. He retired as a Statistical Process Control (SPC) Production Supervisor and was known for his strong work ethic, making sure everyone was taking care of while telling his famous jokes.


Layne was a man of many interests. He was passionate about golf and spent most of his days on the green with his buddies. He enjoyed the company of his friends at the Elks lodge and the VFW. He also enjoyed playing pool and sitting at “his spot” at the bar. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling side by side with his big brother. He cherished his time spent with loved ones and showing off pictures of his babies, human or fur balls.


He is preceded in death by his parents, J.P. “Jack” and Cornelia Frances Bryant Freeland and his brother Michael Bryant Freeland. He is survived by his son, Jack (Shannon) Freeland Jr.; daughter, Corie (Billy) Dizol; his grandchildren, Kelli Cozart, Joseph Freeland, Dalton Dizol, Christi Lanier, Chloe Jackson, Lahna Freeland, Karlee Dizol, and Jayce Freeland; great grandchildren Lucas and Rayah; his longtime companion, Pamela Freeland and her children, Shannon Carpenter, Tammy Brooks, and Stacey Carpenter; her grandchildren, Aaron Jonas, Micah Brooks, Kaleb Brooks, Reese Pittman, Maggie Pittman, Sebastian Carpenter, and Eli Carpenter; and her great grandchild, Mason Brooks.


Visitation will be at Bills-McGaugh and Hamilton Funeral Home on Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and will resume Friday, January 16, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Funeral service will be held at Bills-McGaugh & Hamilton Funeral Home on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 12:00 PM followed by burial at Bryant Cemetery. In Lieu of Flowers donations may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Affairs Bill Lowe Wheatley Post 5109; Post 5109, PO Box 1192, Lewisburg, TN 37091.
