Helen Goodman

January 25, 1929 — December 20, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Helen Ezell Goodman, who left this world peacefully on December 20, 2024, at the age of 95. Born on January 25, 1929, in Memphis, Tennessee, Helen was a cherished daughter, a dedicated teacher, and a loving matriarch to her family.

Helen grew up in Marshall County, where she graduated high school before pursuing her education at Lindenwood College and Peabody. With a heart full of passion for nurturing young minds, she devoted many years teaching kindergarten at Oak Hill School, where her kindness and dedication left an indelible mark on countless children and their families. When she retired, her love for learning and children never faded.

A true embodiment of generosity, Helen was all about family. Her big heart extended to everyone she met. In her younger years, she found joy in sewing and shared her musical talent by playing the piano and organ, even contributing her gift to the First Presbyterian Church in Lewisburg. Her love for music was just one of the many ways she touched the lives of those around her.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, John Francis and Anabel Ewing Ezell and her beloved husband, Jack Gilliam Goodman. She is survived by her sons, John Ezell Goodman and James “Jim” Dero Goodman, daughter, Ann Morton (Roger), grandchildren, Jeremiah (Shaina), Josh, and Rachel (James), and great grandchildren, Max, Henry, Finley, and Oliver.

A graveside memorial service for the family will be on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Lone Oak Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Lewisburg, 122 N 2nd Ave, Lewisburg, TN 37091.

Helen's spirit will forever shine in the hearts of her family and friends. Her legacy of compassion, creativity, and community service will live on in the stories we share and the memories we hold dear.

Bills-McGaugh & Hamilton Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to assist the family with the arrangements.
