Carolyn Hawkins

September 15, 1927 — August 21, 2019

Carolyn June Hawkins, aged 91, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2019. She was born September 15, 1927 in Ostella, TN to H.D and Mary B. Clift. She was the widow of Thomas Hale Hawkins who passed away in 2000, and was also preceded in death by her first husband John Boyd in 1960, son Stephen C. Boyd, stepson Tommy Hawkins, granddaughter Stephanie Boyd, sister Sue Arnold, and brothers Joe Clift, Wayne Clift, and Lee Clift.

Carolyn is survived by her son, John T. Boyd, and daughter-in-law Patricia Hawkins; five grandchildren and their spouses, Brandon and Danae Boyd, and Kathryn and Brad Brekle of Birmingham, AL, Hale and Kathryn Hawkins, Re and Kirk Kelso, and Tim and Kylie Hawkins; and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Fay Womble of Shelbyville; brothers, Ralph and Nancy Clift of Morristown, and Ray Clift of Madison, AL; brother-in-law, Leland Arnold of Shelbyville, TN; and many nephews and nieces who she loved deeply.

Mrs. Hawkins was a registered nurse and a proud graduate of St. Thomas Hospital School of Nursing in Nashville. She was also the owner and operator of the Dixie Theater and the Hi-Way 50 Drive-In until her retirement. Carolyn was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church where she faithfully arranged flowers for Sunday services. An avid sports fan, she loved cheering on the Vols, Titans and Braves. Carolyn was the most gracious hostess, and enjoyed entertaining and cooking for family, friends and her Bridge Club members at her home. She would be one of the first to visit a grieving familys home offering her support, a case of Coca Cola bottles and her famous pimento cheese. She was greatly invested in making sure her family and friends knew they were loved and never missed an opportunity to send cards and gifts on every occasion. Everyone who knew her was touched by her wisdom, kind words, and generous spirit.

Please join us in celebrating her life on Saturday, August 24. Visitation will be from noon until 2:00PM, and funeral services will be immediately following at Bills-McGaugh and Hamilton Funeral Home with burial at Lone Oak Cemetery in Lewisburg; Rev. Robert Montgomery is officiating.

BILLS-MCGAUGH & HAMILTON FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
