Mrs. Bernice Fay Stepp Liggett, age 89, resident of Marshall County, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s residence in Atmore, AL surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 21, at 10:00 a.m. at Bills-McGaugh & Hamilton Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Mason officiating. Burial will follow at Wheel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the service time at the funeral home.
Mrs. Liggett was born in Cleveland, Tennessee, to the late George Cecil Stepp and the late Ida Mae Balinger Stepp. She married the love of her life, Robert Quentin Liggett, and together they shared 70 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Fay was known for her many talents and passions. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, collecting antiques—especially glassware—playing the piano for most of her life, riding motorcycles with her husband, and traveling. She was a gifted baker who could decorate cakes like a professional and proudly won the Alabama State Cooking Competition. She was a devoted Christian, teaching Sunday school for many years. Her warm spirit, creativity, and devotion to family made her beloved by all who knew her.
She is survived by her two daughters, La Dona (Liam) McAlister and Darlene Williams; grandchildren, Brian Balinger, Janna (Blake) Stanley, Luke (Mallory) Tyson, Katie Salers, Lindsay (Vinny) Tavares, and Karlie Cunill; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Annette Wells.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Liggett, who passed away in 2024, and her brother, Robert Stepp.
Pallbearers will be Brian Balinger, Vinny Tavares, Alex Tavares, Blake Stanley, Tyson Stanley, Mason Stanley, Arnold Aragon, and Luke Tyson. Honorary pallbearers will be James Tavares, David Salers, Sean Salers, Roman Aragon, and J.D. Tyson.
