Anna Mae Thomas (Wiegand) Swartz, 85, of Lower Burrell died Friday, April 15, 2016 in St. Margaret Hospital, Pittsburg, PA. She was born in New Kensington on May 1, 1930 to the late John A. and Mary Sharick Thomas. She had been a life-long resident of the Tri-City Communities but was currently residing at Pleasant Ridge in the Allegheny Township. A fashion consultant, she worked in the Wards fashion department for 15 years prior to her retirement.
Anna Mae was a charter member of St. Margaret Mary R C Church, Lower Burrell, a charter member and past president of the Ladies Guild of the Church, and was very active in church affairs. She was a member of the Parents Athletic Association, a proud member of Arnold High School Class of 1948, active in the St. Margaret Marys Youth Basketball Team, the "Green Hornets" and also the Lower Burrell Flyers Booster Club while her sons were playing. She enjoyed soap operas and socializing but was happiest when visiting her family and numerous friends. Anna Mae was a kind, generous, loving woman who befriended everyone she met.
Survivors include her six sons and a daughter, Dr. Bob (Dr. Catherine Nolan) Wiegand, Morgantown, West VA, Tom (Dee Dee) Wiegand, Lewisburg, TN, Rebecca (Gary) Alan, Lower Burrell, David (Sheri) Wiegand, Nashville, TN, Pastor William (Bonnie) Wiegand, North Huntington, Rick C. Wiegand, Dayton, Ohio, twenty four grandchildren, thirty five great-grandchildren, a sister, Mary Margaret (Joseph) Czemerda, and a sister-in-law, Gloria Thomas both of Lower Burrell. Numerous nieces, nephews, and step-children also survive.
Friends will be received Sunday, April 17, 2016 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM at the Rusiewicz of Lower Burrell Funeral Home, 3124 Leechburg Road at Alder Street, Lower Burrell. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home at 10:30 AM followed by a Christian Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in St. Margaret Mary Church by the Rev. Kenneth Zaccaggini. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 1009 Puckety Church Road, Lower Burrell or a charity of your choice.
