Mrs. Virginia Ruth Sawyers Hastings

Mrs. Virginia Ruth Sawyers Hastings, age 90 of 6600 Delina Road, Petersburg, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2009 morning at her home.
Mrs. Hastings was a native of Lincoln County and the daughter of the late George Sawyers and Leoda Pamplin Sawyers. She was a member of the Catalpa Church of Christ for seventy years. Mrs. Hastings was a newspaper correspondent for the Lewisburg Tribune later Marshall Tribune for 64 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Doyle Hastings in 2006, one daughter Rhonda Ruth Hastings, six brothers and two sisters.
As a homemaker, Mrs. Hastings prepared canned goods for the public for over thirty years.
Two daughters Janice Harris of Belfast and Doylene Hastings of Petersburg, two sisters-in-law Verna Sawyers and Avis Sawyers and several nieces and nephews survive her.
The funeral service for Mrs. Hastings will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 from the chapel of Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home with Edwin Carpenter, Don Hudson, and Tom Sumners officiating. Burial will follow in Talley Cemetery in the Cane Creek Community near Petersburg. Visitation with the family will be Monday, December 28, 2009 from the 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The men of Catalpa Church of Christ and nephews will serve at honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Catalpa Church of Christ.
