Thomas Brown Sumners

Thomas Brown Sumners, 75, former longtime resident of Lewisburg, died on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System - Pulaski.
Funeral Services for Mr. Sumners will be conducted on Saturday, November 9th at 2:00 PM at Bills-McGaugh & Hamilton Funeral Home with Tony Lancaster and Luke Bowling officiating. A private burial will take place later at Lone Oak Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 11:00 until time of service at the funeral home.
Born on October 26, 1944 in Giles County, he was the son of the late Herald D. Sumners and the late Josephine Rowe Sumners. He was a 1962 graduate of Elkton High School Mr. Sumners was employed; 28 years at Heil Quaker (ICP); 5 years at Lewisburg Gas Department; and 13 years at Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home. He served on the Marshall County Commission, Lewisburg Community Development Board, Board of Zoning Appeals, Trustee of Marshall County Memorial Library, Marshall County Little League, and Trustee of Bee Spring Memorial Cemetery in Bryson. Tom was a charter member and deacon of Parkview Baptist Church, and served as Moderator and Clerk of the New Duck River Baptist Association. He was also a free-lance writer for the Marshall Gazette for many years; writing the column “Let The Horses Talk”, covering the Walking Horse Industry.
Survivors include daughter, Stacye (Jay) Burgett of Lewisburg; son, Thomas Scott (Amy) Sumners of Spring Hill; grandchildren, Jordan Sumner Burgett and Elizabeth Lea (Lily) Burgett both of Lewisburg, Julia Rae Sumners and Ava Elizabeth Sumners of Spring Hill; brother, Jerry Rowe Sumners of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brother, Joe D. Sumners and his aunt, Mary Rowe Storey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bee Spring Memorial Cemetery, c/o Bank of Frankewing, Marshall County Memorial Library, and the building fund of Parkview Baptist Church.
