Sara Jones

December 25, 1922 — November 19, 2008

Sara Allen Jones, age 85, passed away November 19, 2008 at Marshall Medical Center. A native of Marshall County, she was the daughter of the late Kennie A. & Pearl Harwell Allen. She was also preceded in death by her husband Nelson D. Jones and son Jack Allen Jones. She is survived by a sister Margaret A. Jordan of Lewisburg, daughter-in-law Charlotte Jones, three granddaughters Jacquelyn Robert Applegate, Jeannette Travis Rorabaugh, Melanie Chris Sisco, one grandson Allen Jones and one great-granddaughter Abby Rorabaugh.

Mrs. Jones was a graduate of Marshall County High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State College in Murfreesboro. A retired school teacher, she taught for approximately thirty-eight years of which included teaching eighteen years of Junior and Senior English at MCHS. She was a member of Lewisburg First United Methodist Church where she sang alto in the church choir for many years. She was a member of the Marshall County Retired Teachers' Association and a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jones will be conducted Friday November 21 at 10:00 A.M. in the chapel of Bills-McGaugh Funeral with Rev. Mark Irvin officiating. Burial will be in Lone Oak Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Thursday November 20 from 4 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials may be made to the Marshall County Retired Teachers Association Scholarship Fund, c/o Mrs. Mildred Van Horn, 2226 Underpass Road, Lewisburg, TN or the Memorial Scholarship Fund at First Methodist Church 325 W. Church Street, Lewisburg, TN.

Active pallbearers are Allen Jones, Robert Applegate, Travis Rorabaugh, Chris Sisco, David Walker and John Walker.
