Robert McKinney

August 10, 1933 — January 3, 2006

Robert W. 'Bob' McKinney, age 72, died at his residence Tuesday morning, surrounded by his family.

The family has requested that memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund Principal or the Gideon Living Memorial Bible Program, or Willowbrook Hospice of Franklin.

Bob was a native of Mountain Home, NC and the oldest of eight children of Dock Roosevelt and Hester Adeline Whitaker McKinney. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, and was a well known mechanic in the Marshall County area. In recent years, Bob greeted families and provided a strong shoulder for them during their grief, as an attendant at Bills McGaugh Funeral Home. More than anything, Bob was a gentleman who loved people, found kindness in all, and served his Lord faithfully as an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lewisburg, where he had worshiped for many years.

In January of 1955, Bob and Hettie Harrison were united in marriage. Their union was blessed with two daughters: Cindy and Mitzi, and eventually produced a legacy of 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons.

In addition, he is survived by two sisters: Ruby Jeffords of Woodruff, NC and Pauline Patillo of Fletcher, NC; and four brothers: Harold of Naples, NC, Paul of Lemore, CA, Roy of Hendersonville, NC, and Ray of Naples, NC. He was preceded in death by his youngest brother Sam.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 AM from the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Lewisburg, officiated by Rev. Paul Woodford, Bro. Joe Smith, and Dr. Tom Dumser. A eulogy will be offered by his brother, Paul.

Pallbearers will be Greg Donahue, Gary Bolling, Tom Wilson, Charles Hill, Phil Dalton, J. T. Hargrove, Don Daughrity, and Randall Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 3:00 8:00 PM at First Baptist Church.

Bills McGaugh Funeral Home and the United States Forest Service have provided for the planting of a tree in memory of Mr. McKinney.
