Ray Mealer

July 29, 1929 — August 15, 2003

Mr. Ray Edward Mealer, age 74 of Lewisburg, known to many as 'Monkey Man', died Friday morning in Marshall Medical Center.

A native of the Verona Community of Marshall County, he was the son of the late Buford and Opal Spink Mealer and a member of the Church of Christ. He spent his life as a truck driver, first for his fathers logging business, then the City of Lewisburg, and finally with Sequatchie Concrete in Shelbyville.

Mr. Mealer was preceded in death by a son: Phillip Mealer; two brothers: Logan and Glade Mealer; and two sisters: Edith and Loudell.

He is survived by six children: Wanda Presley of Shelbyville, William Mealer of Culleoka, Beverly Rich of Columbia, Jeff Mealer of Culleoka, Cindy Woodard of Columbia, and Nelson Mealer of Culleoka; and six sisters: Elsie Boswell of Tullahoma, Hazel Gevedon of Wheel, Jessie Mae Wilson of Russellville, KY, Nellie Carthon of Nashville, Phoebe West of Shelbyville, and Florine McAllister of Nashville. Additionally, Mr. Mealer was known as 'Granddaddy' to his 22 grandchildren: David Brown, Shannon Meredith, Grady Presley, Adam Stewart, Ronnie Presley, Linda Nelson, John Presley, Leah Ann Ward, Ashley Wiles, Angie Crossland, Misty Rich Heisler, Jerry Rich, Jeffrey Mealer, JR., Jessica Mealer, Josh Pardo, Destiny Woodard, Mary Mealer, Curtis Mealer, Dwayne Mealer, James Mealer, Felicia Pickett, and Nathan Woodard; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Bills McGaugh Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Frank Edwards. Burial will follow in Lone Oak Cemetery.

The family will be at Bills McGaugh Funeral Home after 5:00 PM Friday, through the day Saturday, and Sunday until the funeral hour for visitation.
