Nathan Harris

August 18, 1982 — October 10, 2006

Beloved son, Nathan Lee Wantland Harris, 24, a resident of Rolling Fields Drive in Columbia, died Tuesday, October 10, 2006 in Cookeville as the result of a motorcycle accident.

Funeral services for Nathan will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the West End Baptist Church in Columbia with Reverend Elizabeth Stephens and Dr. Carl Duck officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m., and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The Maury County native was the son of Steve and Debra Wantland Harris of Columbia. He is the grandson of Mrs. Mary Jo Boatright Harris of Mt. Pleasant and the late James Norman Harris, the late Howell Zillman Wantland and Grace Lee Turner Wantland.

Nathan was a former employee of Burger King in Columbia and was currently with Red Lobster in Cookeville. He was a 2001 graduate of Columbia Central High School where he was an honor student and a three year letterman having excelled for the Lions football team. He was actively involved in Christian Athletes and Jackson Cadets during his high school years. He attended Columbia State Community before transferring to Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville. He was a Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball Player and involved in soccer as a young boy. He was a member of the West End Baptist Church. Nathan loved hunting, fishing, and golfing. Nathan had a very special relationship with his late grandfather, Howell Zillman Wantland, who passed away in January 2006. Roommates and friends in Cookeville nicknamed Nathan, Daddy Harris because he always took care of everyone.

Survivors in addition to his parents, aunts, Donna W. Willis Jones of Williamsport, Betty Ann Dr. John Dixon of Murfreesboro, Brenda James Malugin of Columbia, Linda Wendell Owen of Murfreesboro, and Cheryl Larry Crosby of Nashville Pam Tommy Dugger of Franklin; uncles, Howell Smith Joan Wantland of Knoxville, William Newton Mary Wantland of Columbia, James Norman Gail Harris, Jr. of Clarksville, Eddie Brenda Harris of Columbia, and Jerry Debbie Brown of Lewisburg.

Pallbearers will be Tim Jones, Jesse Brown, Kyle Dugger, Willis Jones, Forrest Lee, John Trent Dickson, Matt Wantland, Brad Wantland, Sam Wantland, and Abe Wantland. Honorary pallbearers will be former Jackson Cadets, friends and co-workers at Red Lobster and Burger King, all friends, close and special in life.
