Mavis Davis

February 27, 1923 — May 29, 2008

Mrs. Mavis Fox Davis Thompson's Station, TN Age 85 passed away on May 29, at Maury Regional Hospital after a short illness. Mrs. Davis was the daughter of the late Thomas Collie and Jewel Warf Fox of the Bending Chestnut Community. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, L.D. 2005 and her son, Larry2004. She and her late husband founded and operated L.D. Davis Garage and Used Parts in Thompson's Station for over 50 years. Prior to that time, Mrs. Davis was a teacher in one and two room school houses in the Boston Community, the Bending Chestnut Community and other surrounding areas for 10 years. Mrs. Davis was also preceded in death by 1 brother, Gilbert Fox, and 1 sister, Margaret Jones. Mrs. Davis was a member of Craigfield Freewill Baptist Church and helped to book the gospel singings held there for many years. Mrs. Davis is survived by her son, James Edward Jimmy Davis, Sr., and her daughter, Barbara Davis, both of Thompson's Station and 1 daughter-in-law, Judy Davis, of Spring Hill. She is also survived by 3 grandsons, James {Jim} Jennifer Davis of Columbia; Timothy Kelly Davis of Pulaski; and Joseph Davis of Thompson's Station; 4 great grandchildren, Nicholas Columbia and Hannah, Clay and Maycee of Pulaski. Also, Mrs. Davis is survived by sisters, Mary Willie Bowman Davis; Julia Edwards; Geraldine Grover Anderson; Elise Baker; and 1 brother T.C. Emma Jean Fox; brother-in-laws Garfield Doris Davis and Willie Bowman Mary Davis and special caregivers, Ms. Lucille Haynes and Mrs. Betty Fitzgerald. Also special thanks to NHC Home Health Care, Shannon Keathley and Denise King as well as Dr. Rand Hayes and staff.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 31, at 2 p.m. at the Cumberland Church located at 415 Franklin Road, Franklin TN across from LEGENDS Golf Course with burial to follow in Greenbrier Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, May 30, and on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m.

Pallbearers will be: James Edward Davis, Jr., Timothy Davis, Joseph Davis, Joe Costal, Bobby Lampley, and Kenneth Davis. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Craigfield Freewill Baptist Church, Grover Anderson, Garfield Davis, Willie Bowman Davis, Jr., James Fitzgerald, John Crutcher; Hugh Sanders; James Davis Porter , W.C. Punny Harris, Jr., Morris Anderson and Allen Huff.

Memorials may be made to the Greenbrier Cemetery Fund or Craigfield Freewill Baptist Church.
