Martha Gongie Cathey

Martha V. "Gongie" Cheek Cathey, age 93 of Lewisburg, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2014 in NHC Healthcare-Lewisburg. A native of Marshall County, Mrs. Cathey was the daughter of the late Oslin G. Cheek and Vandillia Tindell Cheek. She was a homemaker and a member of Antioch Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years, Clyde Hunter Cathey, who passed away in 1984. She is survived by one son, Jackie Cheek Cathey of Lewisburg; one daughter, Carol (Jerry) Murdock of Lewisburg; one sister, Vannie Tindell Street of Cookeville; five grandchildren, Cathey Talley (Ken) Sweeney, Mark Jason (Cecilia) Murdock, Lisa Cathey Smith, Julie Cathey (Bill) Hallenberg, and Jennifer Cathey (Heath) Giles; and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Cathey will be Monday, October 13, 2014, at 11 AM from the Chapel of Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery in the Berlin Community. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, October 12, 2014, from 4 PM until 8 PM and again on Monday beginning at 10 AM until the funeral hour at Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home.
