Jimmy Staggs

November 26, 1955 — January 11, 2005

Mr. James Herbert Jimmy Staggs, age 49 of Lewisburg, died Tuesday afternoon in Maury Regional Hospital.

Jimmy was a native of Mt. Pleasant, son of the late David Staggs and Mrs. Margaret Kelley Raymond of Williamsport. He was formerly employed with Faber Castell Corporation as an assistant supervisor. He then was employed with Mid-State Medical, H & H Communications, and most recently The Home Depot.

In addition to his mother: Margaret Raymond, Jimmy is survived by his wife: Darlene Hargrove Staggs of Lewisburg, a daughter: Julette Gochee of Unionville; a son: Nathan Staggs of Lewisburg; step-son: Jeremy Haskins of Lexington, KY; step-daughter: Jessica Hughes of Lewisburg; brother: Tom Staggs of Williamsport; and 4 sisters: Ann Nichols, Jan Scarberry, Sandra Staggs Jones, and Susan Staggs, all of Columbia. 12 grandchildren also survive.

Other than his family, Jimmys two loves included the Crimson Tide Football team from Alabama which he came to love under the coaching legend Bear Bryant and coaching baseball.

He coached for over 20 years in Marshall County, from T-Ball to Babe Ruth, capturing League Championships along the way in every division. He also son District and Area championships in Little League before capping off his coaching career with a State Championship in 2002 with his 15 Year Old Babe Ruth team the Marshall County Storm. Jimmy retired after capturing the State Crown, stating 'It doesnt get any better than this.

Jimmy had a great influence over many young men during his coaching career and will never be forgotten for his love of the kids and the game.

He was also one of the working forces behind the building of the Little League complex, coming to the site every day after getting off third shift at Faber. He would work on the field as long as he could before having to get some sleep to return to work. Many times he would catch those precious moments on the bleachers at the park.

Coach Danny Hollingsworth states, We have lost a great man in our community, but a greater friend.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 PM from the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, with Bro. Paul Lucas and Jeremy Haskins officiating. Burial will follow in Lone Oak Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Gilbert, Allen Campbell, Pete Johnson, Greg Bradley, Mike Tatum, and Frankie Dalton.

The family will be at Bills McGaugh Funeral Home on Thursday from 2:00 8:00 PM for visitation. They will gather again on Friday from 10:00 AM 2:00 PM at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church for visitation.

Bills McGaugh Funeral Home and the United States Forest Service have provided for the planting of a tree in Jimmys memory.
