Jessie Moffitt

Mrs. Jessie Lee Dowee Moffitt, age 99 of Lewisburg, died Thursday in NHC-Lewisburg.

Born in 1904 in the Rally Hill community of Maury County, she was the daughter of the late A. T. and Ada Biggers Smith, a homemaker, and a member of the Baptist church. Mrs. Moffitt worked during the 1920s and 30s for Red Cedar Pencil, returning to the home following the death of her husband, Paul Moffitt, on May 15, 1935. Having no children of her own, she was active in raising many children in the community. Mrs. Moffitt is also credited with having provided the first peony planted in Lone Oak Cemetery.

Funeral services celebrating Mrs. Moffitts life will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Bills McGaugh Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Lone Oak Cemetery.

The family will visit with friends on Friday from 1:00 until 8:00 PM at Bills McGaugh Funeral Home, and again on Saturday until the funeral hour.
