James L.V. Prince

July 9, 1940 — June 16, 2006

Mr. James L.V. Big Jim Prince, 65, well-known businessman and former owner of Big Jim Country and resident of New Columbia Highway in Lewisburg, died June 16, 2006 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.

A memorial service for Mr. Prince will be conducted Monday evening, June 19, 2006 at 7:00 PM at Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 until service time at the funeral home.

The Marshall County native was the son of the late Virgil Prince and Gertie Byrd. He was currently the owner/operator of Big Jim Bungalow at Elkton. He was a multi entrepreneur, member of the Teamsters Union and former body guard for many famous stars. At Christmas, he contributed fruit baskets to area nursing homes and was involved with Toys-for-Tots. He served as a board member for several Marshall County banks and was appointed by Governor Don Sundquist as an Honorary Colonel for the state of Tennessee. He was active in the affairs of the Democratic Party and St. Jude Childrens Hospital. He was a loving and adoring father and grandfather and was a believer of all faiths.

He is survived by two sons, James Prince of Charlotte N.C. and Jerry Blaze Prince of Lewisburg; a daughter, Susie Eddie Dale of Lewisburg; two sisters Audrey Summers and Gertrude Rohan both of Missouri; 3 brothers; Carl Tina Prince of Johnson City, Illnois, Dallas Prince and Cloid Helen Prince both of Lewisburg; eight grandchildren, Shelly Ross, Ethan Prince, Brendan Prince, Ashbey Prince, Judd Bullock, Lacey Prince, Justin Dale, and Alyssa Prince; special niece and caregiver, Valerie Edwin Villafane ; a great nephew whom he raised, Erick Prince Marquez; several other nieces and nephews. He was previously married to his friend and mother of his children, Betty Smith Prince of Lewisburg and also Brenda Foster Prince of Chapel Hill; special caregiver, Marie Graham. He was preceded in death by one grandchild, Jorgen Prince who died in 1993.

Honorary pallbearers will be all former employees of Big Jim Country, Jimmy Pitts, Eddie Dale, Ben Piper, Pat McCandless, Thomas Trinidad, Judge Charles Lee, Judge Steve Bowden, Richard Holt, Gene Cash, Rev. James Watkins, Gary North, Edwin Villafane and Dr. Michael Davidson.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, Vanderbilt Childrens Hospital or the Ronald McDonald House.
