David Sgt. Hierholzer

Sgt. David M. Harry Hierholzer,27, a resident of Liberty Valley Road in the Belfast Community, died Monday, July 24, 2006 during an attack by Taliban forces in Afghanistan.

Funeral services for Sgt. Hierholzer will be conducted Friday, August 4, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ellington Parkway Church of God with Reverend Rocky Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in the Lone Oak Cemetery with full military honors being provided by the United States Army Honor Guard, 101st Airborne Division of Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home.

The Defiance, Ohio native was the son of David Gordon Hierholzer of Culleoka and Christine DeWulf Hierholzer of Lewisburg. He was a 1998 graduate of Marshall County High School where his passion was Tiger football. He attended Columbia State Community College and Middle Tennessee State University studying criminal justice before enlisting in the Army. He enjoyed riding four wheelers and spending quality time with his family and attended the Ellington Parkway Church of God. He enlisted in May of 2002 and served our country in the United States Army, 32nd Infantry Regiment of the 10th Mountain Division out of Ft. Drum, New York. He was most recently a member of a Coalition patrol in a Combined Joint Task Force in northeastern Afghanistan. David was a brave soldier who gave his life to help a fellow soldier in their defense for freedom for the people of Afghanistan. He served in Iraq from September 2003 until September 2004 and went to Afghanistan in early 2006. He earned a series of military honors during his service including the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. He will truly be known as a hometown hero of Marshall County.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Melanie Blade and Dawn Ford both of Lewisburg, TN; a niece, Alexis Ford of Lewisburg, TN; two nephews, Austin Blade and Mitchell Ford both of Lewisburg, TN.

Pallbearers will be members of the United States Army Honor Guard, 101st Airborne Division of Ft. Campbell, Kentucky.
