I would like to
welcome all to the Bills-McGaugh & Hamilton Funeral Home and Crematory
website. I'm Dennis Hamilton, manager of the funeral home. I was born and
raised in Marshall County and graduated high school here back in the dark ages.
I went off to college and moved to Memphis and built a career there in the
funeral profession. But, "I'm baacckkk". I am very excited and happy
about the opportunity to come back home after so many years. Bon Jovi
said, "Who says you can't go home? There's only one place they call me one
of their own".
The new age of
websites and social media keep us all updated in real time. It's amazing how
fast news travels, good or bad, true or hearsay. With everyone having a
smartphone, news and information is instantaneous. Literally, on a global
scale, you can type in a word, a phrase, a location and right there, you find
out almost everything you need to know. The downside is very few of us ever
disconnect. At times, the flow of information can be overwhelming. These days,
most of us are never really disconnected from our jobs, which can add
more stress to an already fast paced existence. In my old life of corporate
management, I could not listen to music in my car. (and I LOVE music!!) My mind
could not disconnect from corporate deadlines, budgetary goals, meetings,
webinars, financial reports, conference calls, etc. Listening to music provided
no comfort or pleasure. So...I retired. Well, I didn't retire, as much as I
surrendered. I waved the white flag, screaming silently, "I give, I
give!" That was my "aha" moment. I knew I had more to do in this
life, so.....after considerable self reflection, I came home.
In my new life at
Bills-McGaugh and Hamilton, I'm connected all the time but very happy and
content living and serving in Marshall County. I've learned how to manage the
tsunami of information we all receive. I listen to my much loved old time rock
and roll and country music and enjoying a simpler life in the place I grew up
and again, call home.
